First look at Rose Matafeo in new romcom Baby Done
Jul 07 2020
Kiwi comedian Rose Matafeo stars as a woman who doesn’t want to accept how her life will change when she has a baby in upcoming romantic comedy Baby Done.
The film was produced by Taika Waititi and Carthew Neal’s production company Piki Films, which also made Jojo Rabbit, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, and The Breaker Upperers.
Baby Done stars Matafeo as Zoe, who is shocked to discover she’s pregnant. While her long-term boyfriend Tim (Harry Potter’s Matthew Lewis) is excited to become a dad, Zoe is terrified and decides to try to do everything she wants to do before the baby arrives.
“Because Tim and Zoe’s pregnancy catches them off guard, their initial instinct is that they haven’t achieved enough, which is something lots of people are likely to relate to,” Matafeo said.
It’s a semi-autobiographical story written by Sophie Henderson and directed by her husband, Curtis Vowell (Fantail).
“Baby Done came out of our fear of growing up and settling down,” said Vowell.
“We thought it might help if we made a film about it, but we still don’t feel very grown up.”
Baby Done will premiere around New Zealand in October.
