63rd Berlinale winners announced. Taika Waititi, Lucy Walker and Oren Moverman formed First Feature Jury that had to pick the winner out of 27 films. During the Closing Ceremony, Taika read Special Mention to The Battle of Tabatô directed by João Viana from Portugal and Lucy Walker presented the award to the winner of Best First Feature, Australian film The Rocket by Kim Mordaunt. The Rocket also took out the Crystal Bear for best film, awarded by the Children’s Jury to a film from the Generation Kplus section for younger children.
You can watch the Closing Ceremony at zdf.de (the part with Taika starts about 17 min into the video). This time the host Anke Engelke didn’t make any comment about Taika’s name (if you remember what happened at the Opening of the Festival), she just said he’s “ein sehr lustige Neuseeländer” and Taika’s first words at the pulpit were “Anke, I love you.” What a nice closure.
