What We Do in the Shadows team has received multiple nominations for the The Rialto Channel New Zealand Film Awards:
Best Self Funded Film
Best Supporting Actor: Jonathan Brugh
Best Supporting Actress: Jackie van Beek
Best Makeup Design: Dannelle Satherly
Best Costume Design: Amanda Neale
Images & Sound Best Visual Effects: Stan Alley
Best Sound: Simon Riley and Mike Hedges
Best Production Design: Ra Vincent
(Shame it did not get Best Documentary nomination, though).
NZ Herald points out ‘a notable absence from the top awards‘ of Taika and Jemaine’s vampire mockumentary, but Taika cleared that out on his facebook page that ‘there was no snubbage at all. We are nominated in ALL THE CATEGORIES WE SUBMITTED FOR. We didn’t see a point in going for “Best bipolar chess player acting” and there wasn’t a category for “Most believable shit European accent”. All good!‘, which makes sense, since 2014 has been an amazing year for Kiwi cinema and the real competition will be between te reo action film The Dead Lands and acclaimed drama The Dark Horse with 14 and 13 nominations respectively. In both of them stars James Rolleston, who debuted in Taika’s BOY and now he is nominated for Best Actor in The Dead Lands and Best Supporting Actor in The Dark Horse.
The Rialto Channel New Zealand Film Awards take place on Friday December 12, will be live streamed on NZ Herald Online, and later broadcast on Rialto Channel.
Congratulations to all the nominees and good luck!
