You should watch MTV’s The Inbetweeners

Tonight the pilot episode of The Inbetweeners directed by Taika Waititi premieres at 10:30/9:30c on MTV. Don’t miss it!

And if you still have doubts whether you should watch it or not, read what Price Peterson has got to tell you,

The American spin is just different enough [from the British original] that it feels like a very different show, so if fans of the original are open-minded enough, they may find a lot to like here.

While it’s right to be suspicious whenever America remakes foreign shows, we know it CAN be done right (as The Office and Shameless can attest). Fortunately MTV’s Inbetweeners is one of the good ones. Not to sound sacrilegious, but I may even prefer this version to the original… In short, I laughed. A lot.

Should I watch it? Absolutely. If you can get past the idea that this is an American remake (an insta-crime in many viewers’ eyes) AND if you already enjoy shows like Awkward. and particularly Workaholics, you may find yourself as hooked on Inbetweeners as I am… the show’s writing is surprisingly smart and its jokes are as inventive and spirited as I’ve seen on any teen show in a while. 1. So glad to see a British remake that actually looks like it’s going to be good! The success rate of these is pretty bad, especially on MTV – I had high hopes for Skins, but we all know how that turned out. Glad that they don’t seem to be tinkering with the overall formula very much either, and the pilot had me hooked from the moment I heard M83’s “Midnight City” as Will starts his first day at school

    • Yes, the choice of the soundtrack for the pilot was brilliant. Personally, I’m a big fan of New Zealand musicians and it was great to hear that Taika put two songs of the bands from his home country (The Naked and Famous “Young Blood” and Lawrence Arabia “Apple Pie Bed”).

I’m happy to hear you like the show! I believed Taika won’t mess this up. I think it was a good start to something even better. I read somewhere that around episode 4 The US Inbetweeners starts getting its own identity, so I hope it’ll be The Office situtation and not Skins.
